Living Venice

All the Water and None of the Sand

Resources

The Resources included in the blog sidebar are hand-picked by me, not only for the quality of service, but the graciousness and personality of the people who offer them. They are not unknown, so please, book early, especially Venice, especially on a weekend, especially in season. You’ll also notice I principally list B&Bs, mainly because you don’t need my help to find the Danieli, and then, I prefer them myself. They’ll always have fewer rooms available, of course, which is yet another reason to plan well ahead. Apartments can be good living alternatives to hotels; for best prices, try booking through local agencies and owners whenever possible, or even researching house exchanges. Official affiliates are marked with an asterisk*, but again, they’re affiliates because they offer reliable, quality service. For the rest, feel free tell them I sent you (they may even recognize my name).

EATERIES.

We’ve decided to move the entries for restaurants and eateries from the blog to the new, upcoming italyinstructions.com site…we’ll link from here once it’s up.

What we’ll list there are both personal favorites, and those about whom we hear consistently good reports. The qualifying factor will be that you should not be disappointed if you try them. We’re not including “reviews” per say, as I’m no expert, and the rest can be subjective as to not be representative. I will tell you that I do love to eat, am quite familiar with Venetian fare, and am pretty picky about not only about quality, but the service as well. There are places that are well-known and less so, and that are run both by friends, and those with whom I have no personal connection whatsoever.

A reminder:

  • Most of these are personally run, so do communicate to both your server and proprietors if and how much you enjoyed your meal before leaving.
  • Venice eateries are small, and the good ones are no secret. You must reserve; especially in the evening, especially on the weekend, especially on common closing days, like Mondays.
  • Please, if you reserve and change your mind, do them the courtesy to call and cancel, or have your lodging do it…even at the very last minute. This will allow them to release you table and seat someone else. Manners mean more the money here; your consideration will not go unnoticed. Grazie!
