Sep 18, 2007 Instructions for Use, Worth Noting
If you’re a frequent visitor to Venice or are coming for an extended period of time (a month or more), you may want to look into applying for the new imob smart-card pass with a tessera di abbonamento.
Here are some to-the-best-of-my-knowledge application FYIs.
- You will need a copy of the first page of your passport, and a passport-sized photo.
- You don’t need an Italian codice fiscale. Just leave that field blank.
- For your address, use your residency address, i.e., the one where you actually live, not the one you’ll have while in Venice.
- If you have a cell that works in Italy, enter it, and if it’s not Italian, use the “+country-code number” format.
The cost of an imob with a Tessera di Abbonamento is €40, after which you may choose the type of ticket you wish to buy (a month’s pass, a carnet, etc.). If you have an existing abbonamento, you can renew it for €5.
Your application receipt will substitute for your card until it’s available for pickup, 20 days later, from the booth nearest where you applied (they’ll tell you where). You can have someone else retrieve it for you, if they either have your receipt, or your name and the date on the application. If it will be some time before you can pick up your card, it may get relocated to the ACTV office at Tronchetto (the “parking island” on the other side of the port, accessible by vaporetto or on foot). The imob machines will be operational, oh…when they’re operational.
In addition, you can obtain your imob card in one fell swoop at the ACTV office at the Tronchetto office, just off the vaporetto stop. From Piazzale Roma, you may be able to purchase a €2 traghetto ticket to get there, as opposed to the €6 full fare.
PLEASE NOTE: For the most current ACTV or lots of other info, call HelloVenezia: +39 041 2424. The system is still evolving and they’ll have the latest. Just press the option for English and transporation and you’ll get to the person who can answer your questions.
