Trying to catch a train leaving in the next 15 minutes? TrenItalia has recently introduced Sportello Veloce, or the Fast Ticket Counter, dedicated to issuing tickets only for trains are leaving in the next quarter of an hour.
These windows can be a life saver for ad-hoc travel, when you miss vaporetto #82 to the Ferrovia (that would be me), or are held up in Milan traffic while in transit on the Malpensa Shuttle. As the attendant behind the window affirmed with a smile as he handed me my ticket, “I’m always here.” In larger stations there are more than one window, and the lines move pretty fast, as you might imagine.
So if you’re at the station and the Automatic Ticketing Machines decide to go on sciopero, just look for the teal “Sportello Veloce” or Fast Ticket sign over the window.
